A Road Project Underway in Nangarhar

Kabul, October 01, 2020 – A 1,200-meter rural road supported by a 600-meter retaining wall aimed at reducing maintenance and preventing erosion is currently under construction in Barmiagan village, Khogiani district of Nangarhar province.

The tertiary road project worth more than AFN 1.3 million funded by the Maintenance and Construction Cash Grant (MCCG) Project under the Citizens’ Charter National Priority Program of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD/CCNPP) will directly benefit 162 households in the region.

Meanwhile, a total of 2,280 labor days have so far been created for both skilled and unskilled local laborers considering employment generation during the project execution.

The Maintenance and Construction Cash Grant (MCCG) is a grant provided for communities to rehabilitate, extend existing or construct new public infrastructure subprojects, in such a manner that a minimum of 60% of the grant for the given community should be utilized for labor. The main objective of MCCG program is to create jobs to mitigate seasonal hunger during the lean season in the high Internally Displace Persons (IDPs) and Returnee influx areas.
