First Biogas Pilot Project Launched in Laghman
Kabul, July 31, 2018 – A biogas provision pilot project was inaugurated by Muhammad Asif Nang the Governor of Laghman province as an initiative of the Citizens’ Charter National Priority Program of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD/CCNPP).
The biogas device that was launched can produce about 500 grams of fuel gas by using up to 500 grams of kitchen wastages and mixing 1.5 liters of water into the system. The system can be activated using animal waste material within a temperature above 20 degrees. The biogas system is primarily prepared using two water tanks with capacity of 1000-liter and 800-liter each. After the successful application of this pilot system, it is expected to use biogas widely in the rural areas in order to enable people to access to fuel gas. The capacity to produce biogas using animal waste or kitchen waste materials is high in rural areas and the sustainability of this project contributes to provide a major part of the energy and fuel needs of the villagers.
“The use of the Biogas is free of charge and these devices can be easily made with different capacities. This device is designed for villages in the country. The only associated expense of this system is for its installation and assembling that costs 17,000 Afs”, says Shawali Hozor, Head of Engineering Division of CCNPP.
It is worth mentioning that one of the objectives of the Citizen’s Charter National Priority Program is to reduce poverty and provide minimum service standards for the citizens. Based on this, CCNPP provides services related to clean drinking water, education, health, access to primary roads, waterfalls, water siphons and storages, electricity provision (renewable energy) and other minimum service standards in the rural areas.
