120 Households Gain Access to Safe Drinking Water in Haji Abdul Haq Village

Kabul, April 10, 2021 - A total of 120 households in Haji Abdul Haq village, Spinboldak district of Kandahar province have gained access to safe drinking water upon completion of a water supply network worth more than AFN 1.7 million funded by the Citizens’ Charter National Priority Program of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD/CCNPP) including 10% community contribution (financial, labor or in-kind).

Consisted of a 10-cubic meter overhead concrete water storage tank, several solar panels, a deep well and six water points - the water supply network has been designed to pipe out safe water to hundreds of consumers residing across the community.

According to local residents, the water supply project led to a significant decline in water-borne diseases, caused by contaminated and stream water in villagers over the past years.

As of April 10, 2021, the MRRD/CCNPP has been able to complete 1,195 projects in water supply sector which directly benefit 1,417,121 people in 217,861 households in 123 districts while another 677 are ongoing in all 34 provinces of Afghanistan.

Taking the employment generation and economic recovery into consideration, a total of 701,544 labor days have been created for both skilled and unskilled local laborers during the water supply projects implementation across the country.
