A School Building Completed in Zabul Province

A school building consisted of 6 classrooms, an offices, three sets of toilets and a deep well equipped with hand pump financed by the Education Quality Reform in Afghanistan (EQRA) Project under the Citizens’ Charter National Priority Program of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD/CCNPP) has recently been completed and handed over to the Education Directorate in Zabul province

The successful completion of the school building project has helped some 200 local boys and girls gain access to a healthy learning environment in Makarak village, Mizan district of Zabul province. Meanwhile, a total of 2,267 labor days have been created for both local skilled and unskilled laborers during the implementation of the school building project.

It is worth noting that a total of 163 school buildings (133 new buildings and 30 with missing components) in seven districts of Zabul province are planned to be constructed through EQRA Project in its first phase. So far, 25 school buildings have been completed, 32 are under construction while the work of rest will start in near future.

EQRA seeks to increase equitable access to primary and secondary education, particularly for girls, in 17 selected provinces and improve learning conditions in Afghanistan. EQRA will introduce a shift from monitoring only student enrollment numbers (which include permanently absent students) to focusing on bringing children into school and tracking their attendance. The four components of the Project are 1: Equitable Access to Basic Education,       2: Improving Learning Conditions 3: Strengthening Education Sector Planning Capacity and Transparency, and 4: Technical assistance (to strengthen MOE’s capacity).

As of March 25, 2021 - a total of 755 school building projects (construction of new school buildings and provision of Missing Essential Elements for rehabilitation of existing school buildings) have been completed, 694 handed over to the Ministry of Education while 660 are ongoing out of 2,647 committed school projects in 17 provinces of Afghanistan.
