Launch of Seven Development Projects for Kuchie Communities in Herat
Kabul, September 12, 2020 – Seven development projects financed by the Citizens’ Charter National Priority Program of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD/CCNPP) have been launched for Kuchie communities in three districts of Herat province.
All these projects, belonging to Water Supply and Sanitation Sector, will be executed in Zandajan, Zerkoh and Pashtun Zarghon districts of Herat province in cooperation with the Kuchie Community Development Councils (KCDCs) or Elands, recently established under the MRRD/CCNPP. Designed to be completed in a period of four to six months, the projects worth more than AFN 10 million funded by the MRRD/CCNPP including 10% community contribution (financial, labor or in-kind) will promote the access of more than 2,000 Kuchies (nomads) to healthy drinking water in seven Elbands across all three districts.
Furthermore, a total of 3,500 labor days will be created for both skilled and unskilled laborers as casual employment during the implementation of these projects in all seven Elbands in three districts of Herat province.
In line with the plan, a total of 42 KCDCs or Elbands will be established through transparent election process by the MRRD/CCNPP at Herat province level. So far, 35 KCDCs or Elbands have been established and 22 KCDCs or Elbands have been able to prepare and complete their Community Development Plans (CDPs) successfully in Herat province.
The Kuchies Development Program under the MRRD/CCNPP has been designed to establish 902 Kuchie Community Development Councils (KCDCs) or Elbands across Afghanistan for Kuchies through transparent and democratic elections to promote their access to basic services e.g. water supply, power/renewable energy, transport (encouraged as joint project), etc.
