350 Families Gain Access to Potable Water in Badghis

Kabul, August, 23, 2020 - Some 350 families in Kashaniha village, Muqar district of Badghis province have gained access to safe drinking water for the first time upon completion of a water supply network, worth more than three million Afghanis funded by the Citizens’ Charter National Priority Program of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD/CCNPP) including 10% community contribution (financial, labor or in-kind).

Consisted of a reservoir capable of storing 75,000 liters of water, a solar-powered water pump, a couple of deep wells and 15 faucets in various parts - the water supply network has been designed to distribute healthy drinking water to local consumers across Kashaniha village.

Taking the employment generation and economic recovery into consideration, tens of villagers have been provided with short-term employment opportunities during the project implementation for a period of one year.

According to local residents, they had a lot of difficulties due to lack of clean drinking water in the Kashaniha village in the past. They used to drink water from a stream flowing down their village which would usually cause numerous water-borne diseases both in children and adults. Most of these problems have been resolved over the successful construction of the water supply network within the community.

It is worth mentioning that hundreds of Citizens’ Charter-funded development projects are currently underway, while some of them have already been completed in various communities of Badghis province.
