Construction of 103 School Buildings Starts in Paktia Province

Kabul, October 23, 2019 – The practical work of 103 school buildings through EQRA under the Citizens’ Charter National Priority Program of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD/CCNPP) formally started in various districts of Paktia province.

H.E Mujeeb Rahman Karimi the MRRD Minister speaking in a gathering in that province said in this regard: “Based on our plan, a total of 103 school buildings worth nearly USD 10 million will be constructed in Paktia province. These school buildings will facilitate the access of over 43,000 students to a proper learning environment”.

Out of 103 school buildings under EQRA Project in Paktia province, 92 encompass the new buildings while 11 others formerly built school buildings will be equipped with the missing components e.g. construction of boundary walls, toilets and excavation of wells to provide safe drinking water. The MRRD Minister was accompanied by Shamim Khan Katawazi the Paktia Governor, Shahzar Zadran the Advisor to the MRRD Minister, Mukhtar Ghafarzoy the MRRD/CCNPP Operations Director, Paktia Provincial Assembly Speaker, sectoral directors and a number of influential tribal elders in that province who have also participated in the school buildings inauguration ceremony.

Shamim Khan Katwazi, the Governor of Paktia expressed his deep gratitude for the consistent efforts made by the MRRD for construction of school buildings in the rural areas. “Upon completion of these schools, 99 percent of the challenges caused by the lack of proper school buildings will be resolved in Paktia province”, he said in a statement.  

Based on special instructions of H.E Muhammad Ashraf Ghani the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, 6,000 school buildings will be constructed under EQRA project by CCNPP/MRRD across 34 provinces of Afghanistan. Currently, the design and construction work of 2,647 school buildings in 17 districts of Afghanistan is underway.

It is worth mentioning that a number of these school buildings have successfully been completed in different provinces so far and this number is increasing on a daily basis. Tens of the completed school buildings will be officially handed over to the Ministry of Education in the near future, for public utilization.
